  • This “new normal” is tough.  Wearing all the appropriate PPE, going through all the extra measures and protocols is exhausting.  Every minute I think about how difficult it is for my colleagues on the front line and send my love and admiration. 🏩 I’ve heard about how many skin issues the healthcare workers are having with the masks and respirators and now I see it up close. Due to the tight fit and increased heat & moisture, many physicians and nurses are experiencing skin breakdown, acne and rosacea flares, bruising, hyperpigmentation, and even ulceration.  By doing a few simple measures, you can help your skin stay intact and limit the damage: . . 🚿 Make sure your skin is clean and hydrated with a gentle moisturizer prior to putting on your mask. . . 💄Avoid wearing any makeup under the mask! . . 👶Be as gentle to your skin as possible.  This means stopping all harsh cleansers, scrubs, and retinoids/retinols that make your skin more sensitive. . . 🛡️Once the mask is off, use gentle cleanser and barrier repair cream on the areas of concern. I like to keep it simple with either Vaseline, @cerave Healing Ointment or @eltamdskincare Barrier Renewal Complex.  If your skin is ulcerated or infected, you may need a Rx to help repair it. . . 🚫Avoid using any physical barriers like tape or hydrocolloid bandages between the skin and mask.
