Dermal fillers are specific in their chemical makeup, and different brands are used by professionals to correct certain skin texture problems, primarily on the face. Collagen used to be a common filler, but these days, most fillers, such as Restylane®, use hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid fillers work by drawing in and holding moisture within dermal and subdermal tissues. This is what sets dermal fillers apart from neurotoxins. Whether it is produced naturally within the body or injected, hyaluronic acid is responsible for giving skin a plump, hydrated look. Restylane® is one of the most popular fillers. Composed of a gel, it is injected beneath the skin to add volume and reduce the visibility or moderate creasing and folding in certain areas. What is Restylane®?
Restylane® contains tiny hyaluronic acid spheres. This acid is a type of polysaccharide and is produced naturally by the body to help keep the skin moist. In concentrated amounts, hyaluronic acid acts as a plumping agent because it holds any moisture it comes into contact with. No pre-treatment allergy testing is required before receiving the injections. Once injected, the acid integrates with the subdermal tissues and immediately begins to attract water. The water molecules stick to the gel, and then these molecules attract and hold additional water molecules. The visual effect is almost immediate.
There are various gel thicknesses with a specific malleability, and they are used to treat a targeted crease or fold. During your consultation, we will discuss particular formulas, dosages, and explain why certain choices are suitable for certain areas and concerns. We will explain the ideal treatment plan for you, but know that the most natural-looking results may require more than one session or product.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Some clients are found to be suitable candidates for this treatment as a means to correct severe folding around the corners of the mouth, but a consultation is necessary to determine whether this for sure. Restylane® can be injected for the purpose of smoothing out small folds on the facial skin.
